🌍 Reaching Rural Communities
"As someone in a remote area, GBV Safe Corner gave me access to support I couldn't find locally. The anonymous nature made me feel safe to reach out for the first time."
Creating safe, anonymous digital spaces for survivors of gender-based violence
GBV Safe Corner was born from a critical need for safe, accessible, and anonymous support for survivors of gender-based violence in South Africa. Founded in 2023, our platform emerged from community conversations with survivors, support workers, and advocates who identified gaps in existing support systems.
To create a trusted, anonymous digital sanctuary where survivors of gender-based violence can safely access support, share experiences, and find community without fear of judgment, stigma, or identification. We believe everyone deserves access to help and healing on their own terms.
Identified the critical need for anonymous GBV support through community research and survivor interviews. Conducted extensive user research to understand the unique challenges faced by survivors in South Africa.
Launched the first version of GBV Safe Corner with basic reporting and resource directory features. Partnered with 5 local support organizations to verify our initial service directory.
Added multi-language support, safety planning tools, and community features based on user feedback. Expanded our verified support network to include 13+ organizations across South Africa.
Continually improving based on survivor input and expanding our verified support network. Developing new features and partnerships to better serve our community.
